There are four main mechanisms:

1. Soil moisture (evaporation from the ground)

The soil in a crawl space is almost always damp. That moisture evaporates continuously and rises.

Consequences:

A layer of shells or insulation granules:

  • prevents moisture rising

  • improves temperature stability

  • reduces condensation

B. Solutions for Poor Ventilation

1. Install new ventilation vents

At least two, positioned opposite each other for cross‑ventilation.

2. Clear blocked vents

Many vents are buried or clogged.

3. Mechanical crawl space ventilation

For situations where natural ventilation is impossible.

C. Solutions for Condensation & Thermal Bridges

1. Floor insulation

Examples:

  • PUR foam

  • insulation boards

  • mineral wool (protected from moisture)

Benefits:

D. Solutions for Leaks
