Remmers Funcosil BI 5L – Hydrophobic Impregnation

Product Description

Remmers Funcosil BI 5L is a colorless, solvent-based hydrophobic impregnation based on silane/siloxane. It is specially designed for concrete, precast concrete, exposed aggregate concrete, and fiber cement. The low viscosity ensures deep penetration into pores and capillaries, forming a water-repellent zone without sealing the surface.

It provides long-lasting protection against moisture, driving rain, and de-icing salt damage while preserving the natural appearance of the material. Ideal for smaller projects, detailed applications, or maintenance work.


Applications

Funcosil BI is suitable for:

  • Concrete and precast concrete façades

  • Parking garages, galleries, and balconies

  • Bridges and infrastructural concrete structures

  • Fiber cement façade panels

  • Protection against chloride penetration and de-icing salt

Not suitable for solvent-sensitive materials such as polystyrene or bituminous substrates. Substrate must be sufficiently absorbent for optimal performance.

Consumption

  • Concrete: approx. 0.3–0.5 l/m²

  • Aerated concrete: approx. 0.8–1.0 l/m²

  • Fiber cement: approx. 0.3 l/m²

Always determine exact consumption on a 1–2 m² test area.


Application

  1. Substrate must be clean, dry, and dust-free.

  2. Repair damages, cracks, or defective joints beforehand.

  3. Apply without pressure by flowing or low-pressure spray. Avoid misting.

  4. Apply multiple times wet-on-wet until saturation is visible.

  5. Remove excess material within 1 hour using Thinner V 101.

Application temperature: +10°C to +25°C (material, air, and substrate).

Protect treated surfaces from rain, sunlight, and wind during drying.

Storage and Safety

Store in original unopened container, cool and frost-free. Once opened, limited shelf life.

Use appropriate protective equipment (gloves, safety glasses, respiratory protection when spraying). Dispose of residues and empty containers according to local regulations.
